EB 2014 > Introduction

In the context of the rapid degradation of ecosystems, developing a fundamental research of quality in ecology and evolutionary biology is essential . Therefore, throughout this project, we propose a coordinated meeting around ecology, evolutionary biology, and animal behaviour designed for young researchers (phD students, post-doctoral researchers).

The first interest of the Ecology and Behaviour meetings is the exchange and spreading of information, encouraged by a friendly atmosphere and time for discussion between each conference. The two previous editions of the meetings (Strasbourg in 2013 and Chizé in 2012) were crowned with success as about 80 studies of an excellent standard were respectively presented to each of these editions in the form of oral communication or poster. PhD students and post-docs are a driving force in the research laboratories. This meeting can promote their work and create a debate around the various research topics thereby provoking new questioning. In addition, improving inter-university international exchanges, this  seminar promotes future collaborations between research teams from all around Europe. These meetings also provide contact to students with French and foreign laboratories to prepare their doctoral or post-doctoral.

Another advantage of this conference is that all communications are in English. This allows young researchers to practice presenting their work and prepare international congress for which mastering English is quite essential. Along the Ecology and Behaviour meetings, the proportion of foreign participants has increased greatly and now accounts for about half of registered participants.

Finally, the participation of young researchers to the "Ecology & Behaviour" meetings is highly favored because, unlike in most conferences and congresses, where entrance fees can be prohibitive for doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, provided they present a communication during the conference, no financial contribution is asked from the phD students, and post-doctoral researchers benefit from a reduced inscription fee (more details on fees).
